Bonfire Sparks Brush Fire

On Friday, October 18, 2024, at 20:22, companies were dispatched to the area of Route 23 North and Carlson Place for the report of a bonfire that had spread to nearby trees. Upon arrival, Captain 1 established incident command and confirmed that the fire had spread to a large adjacent tree and was burning about 60 feet up. Due to the set-back location of the fire, apparatus access was limited. Members stretched about 350’ of hoseline off of Engine 1-1 in order to reach the fire area. Because of the elevated risk for the spread of wildfires at that time, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service responded to the scene as well for assistance and containment. Both the tree fire and bonfire were extinguished and all units were cleared without further incident. Operations lasted about one hour.
